Digital Footprints: How I Navigate Social Media

Daily writing prompt
How do you use social media?

Like most people today, I find it impossible to imagine life without social media. It’s my daily window to the world. While I’m active on various platforms like LinkedIn and Reddit, about 90% of my time is spent on four main apps: Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram. Here’s a look at how I use each one.

Facebook: My Digital Newspaper

I’ve been using the same Facebook account since 2011. While many people I know juggle multiple accounts, I’ve stuck with my original one for over a decade without ever facing a ban or a scam.

In Thailand, Facebook is more than just a social network; it’s a primary source for news and updates. I’ve become quite the “silent observer”-I stopped posting personal updates in 2022 after my college graduation. My friends often think I’ve gone inactive, but in reality, I’m still there, hitting “Like” and commenting on things that catch my eye.

YouTube: A Lifelong Learning & Entertainment Hub

YouTube is probably my favorite platform; I even subscribe to Premium. I’ve been following HeartRocker since 2011, back when I was just 13 years old!

I actually used to upload my own videos during secondary school, but after being bullied by classmates, I stopped. Looking back, I regret letting them get to me. Today, I only have one public video available. I’m still torn between making content in Thai or English-since I grew up watching American YouTubers, English content feels very natural to me, but Thai is my home.

TikTok: Quick Bites of Content

I joined the TikTok wave in 2018. It’s perfect for those moments when I want something digestible-15-second clips are much easier to consume than 10-minute videos. I’ve even started posting some of my own gaming clips there. Whenever I capture a great “moment” in a game, I like to share it with the community.

Instagram: My Personal Photo Album

Originally, I used Instagram just to follow football (soccer) players. Now, it serves as my personal digital photo album. I don’t upload often, but I love browsing through Reels-especially videos of seals doing silly things. There’s just something about them that brightens my day!

What about you guys? How do you use Social Media? Share them in the comments! I’d love to read them.
