Do you still remember the first video game you ever played in your life? I do. But unlike most kids my age who started with a Gameboy or a console, my journey began on a PC. Back then, a computer was a rare luxury, and that’s where my world opened up.

First Game on Personal Computer

As a Thai kid, English was still a foreign world to me, so I didn’t even know the name of my very first game. I later found out it was Monster Truck Madness 2. I just loved driving along the train tracks and hitting ‘H’ to call a chopper to pick me up. It was pure, simple joy, and I still miss those days every single day.

First Game on Console

When I eventually got a PS1 from my uncle, my brother and I dove straight into Bloody Roar. We couldn’t read a word of the moves list, so we mastered the art of ‘Button Mashing’-hitting every button as fast as we could until something cool happened on the screen!

Winning Eleven

We also spent countless hours on Winning Eleven. My brother was the football fanatic, always looking for those classic Thai mods-you know, the ones that opened with “วินนิ่งมั้ยสาด!”. I knew ‘jack shit’ about the sport back then, so I just picked Brazil for the stats. He usually beat me, but I still cherish that one legendary 9-5 victory I had over him.

Another classic for us was Fighting Force. My brother played Hawk, and I played Smasher, whom we nicknamed ‘The Flying Pig’ because of his hilarious dive punches. We were stuck at the submarine base boss for years until we finally figured out the ultimate strategy: just throw a heavy barrel at him!

But out of all of them, Chocobo Racing remains my all-time favorite. Even now in my late 20s, I still pull up an emulator to play. I always pick the ‘Angel’ to glide over water, while my brother goes for the Bahamut dragon. We still laugh so loud that people think we’re having an argument-especially when those ‘Skull’ power-ups start flying!
