The Myth of Productivity: Just Start

Daily writing prompt
When do you feel most productive?

Let’s be honest-I’m a pretty lazy guy. Most days, I don’t feel productive at all. I think it stems from work; it often takes so much energy just to get through the daily grind that I feel drained when it comes to personal projects. However, over time, I’ve discovered my own method to trick myself into being productive.

The Power of “Starting”

I’ve realized that the hardest part of any task isn’t the work itself-it’s the start. For the longest time, I wanted to build a software project in C#, but I kept putting it off because I felt too lazy to open the IDE. That project sat on the shelf for months… until the day I finally forced myself to just begin. Once that first line of code was written, everything else just started to flow.

Discipline Over Motivation

Even this blog is a result of that “just start” mentality. I often have to force myself to sit down and type the first sentence. But once I begin, I let my thoughts take over, and my hands follow the rhythm.

To keep myself accountable, I’ve set a strict schedule: a new blog post every Tuesday and Friday at 02:00 UTC. While I’m not perfect and sometimes miss the deadline, I always do my best to stay on track. For me, productivity isn’t a feeling-it’s a habit.

Find Your Own Rhythm

If you aren’t feeling productive right now, that’s perfectly fine. Don’t beat yourself up. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is take a break and come back when your mind is ready. You don’t have to force yourself the way I do. Everyone has their own pace and their own method for getting things done. Find what works for you, and just take that first step.

What about you? When do you feel the most productive, and how do you overcome the “lazy” days? Let’s share some tips in the comments!
